Professor Roy and the Amazingly Bad Poetry Journal Friends and neighbors, Not that anyone necessarily cares, but after a lot of consideration, I decided to delete my previous post as it was pointed out to me (and rightfully so) that an illustration of a hell-bound destiny is exactly the sort of thing Jerry Falwell might have said when someone that he disliked died. I don't believe in hell, but more importantly, I don't believe in Jerry Falwell. I think this is one of those instances when I went with my gut reaction only to reconsider later. The man was a bigot who defended his views with his faith, the man had no appreciation for the separation of church and state, the man had no sense of humor, but he had a right to his beliefs, just as I have a right to disagree with them vehemently. I'd prefer to live in a world where there are no Falwells, but I don't want to be seen as someone who fights hate with hate and does so thoughtlessly. I'd rather not subscribe to that sort of twisted logic. Love, Me |
